Essay for PLAT 13: Alchemy, exploring a critical lens of disability within architecture. This essay looks a neurotypicality as a system that restricts disability to its most narrow definition, often reduced to a bare minimum of; ramp, wide door, ADA bathroom, and done! This is a detriment to all users, disabled and non-disabled. An Autistic Architectural Approach wants to open everyone towards disabled knowledge, to expand architectural understandings of and responses to disability; and to infuse these values in the conceptual phase, bringing shape to our physical world.
